iSight Won't Scan

Ever since I upgraded to DVDpedia 5 on my new MacBook Pro, the iSight won't scan any barcodes. I just get the red rectangle no matter where I hold the dvd. I used to have version 4 on my older MacBook, and it worked fine. My specs are:

DVDpedia 5.0.3
Late 2011 15-inch MacBook Pro 8,2
OS Version 10.7.3

I see on the forums that other people have had similar issues, but I can't find if there's a solution. Please let me know what I could try. Since my old computer died I have to input all my dvds, and typing hundreds of barcodes in sounds exhausting. Thanks very much.

Unfortunately it seems that Apple once again changed the camera in some of their new models so we'll have to try and get a hold of one for testing. For now, try scanning at the very top of the window (ignore the red square) to see if that makes a difference. The focus on the edges of the camera is usually a bit sharper than in the middle so this might help.

I'm having the same problem on my Mac Pro. I'm using the Logitech C910 webcam and it won't pickup the barcode.

The camera works fine as I use it in Google hangouts and other applications, it just won't pickup the barcode.

Any suggestions?

Please download the DVDpedia beta version and try to scan a barcode in the search window. After that, check your console log for a message from DVDpedia (it'll start with "Scanning Device..."). You can access the console log via the application 'Console', located inside your Applications/Utilities. The newer messages are towards the end of the log.
Hopefully that will give us more information about your camera and let us amend our code as necessary.

It does seem to be working better now though. Before, it wouldn't scan at all. Now, I can waive it around a bit and scans most of the time.

Thank you for the information. I have added code for the Logitech C910 to capture at full resolution of 1920x1080, please give DVDpedia beta 33 a try.

It won't scan for me either.

It seems like iSight just can't focus on items that close or something.

I've got an:
- iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core i3 (from 2010 I think)
- OS 10.6.8
- DVDPedia 5.10

Scanning at the top of the window does not work for me either. Any solutions/workarounds for me?

Unfortunately you have the version of the iMac were the scanner does not work due to the focus and limitation of the iSight camera.

Hi there,

i've the same issue with a Logitech C615 - sometimes it scan, but the most of the time it doesn't work.

I also tried Beta 34. Here are the messages from the console:

Thank you for the info on the camera. Do try the beta of DVDpedia 5.1.1, I have updated the the code to use a higher resolution for the C615, as I believe it should be capable of it.
