OpenMeta

This isn't really a feature request... at least not yet. But OpenMeta, a new initiative launched by the makers of Leap & Yep to ensure portability of metadata, has been garnering a lot of attention recently. Would there be any benefits to adopting OpenMeta tags in the Pedias? http://ironicsoftwa...

Re: Web template sorted by Smart Collections (Bookpedia)

Great idea, though I'm afraid I have no idea how this could be done.

Re: Bookpedia: Series ignore leading articles

jenv wrote:It would be nice if there were an option for the Series field to ignore leading articles (The, A) just like Bookpedia does for titles. That way "The Gates of Time" would be sorted under G rather than T.
You mean "Time, The Gates of"?

Typo in "add another copy?" dialogue

I've seen numerous improvements in Bookpedia since I first started using it, and had been hoping some of the smaller, not terribly important errors might be picked up along the way. But I can keep silent no longer! The dialogue that greets a user trying to add a book to a collection, when that book ...

Re: Collection "summaries" (Total cost of books in a collection)

Ingenious, and thanks for the quick reply. However, the math seems to be off, at least for books priced in yen. I have a collection with 112 books, all with yen prices. The most expensive book is 4926 yen, and the cheapest 1002 yen. But the value at the bottom of the window is "175.00" (no...

Collection "summaries" (Total cost of books in a collection)

I often have to create lists of books to a specific budget (usually thousands of dollars) for my university. It would be a big help if I could see the total cost of the books I've assembled into a Bookpedia collection without exporting to Excel or similar software. I'm guessing this would be a fairl...

Table view

Thanks for the help. It seems that the problem was simply that I've recently got into the habit of using cover view, whereas before I always used table view. Switching back to table view solved the problem. However, I've noticed that Amazon Japan has started using kanji in URLs for non-book products...

Dragging links from Amazon; have I gone crazy?

I tend to go through flurries of using Bookpedia and then fairly long periods when I don't launch it. Pretty much everytime I revisit the program, there's an update, which I find impressive. I've recently gone up to 3.3.1 and I'm now unable to drag amazon.com or amazon.co.jp links from Safari into B...

Amazon Japan searchable?

I just searched for John Battelle's book The Search through Bookpedia, choosing amazon.co.jp as the site to search. The keywords I put in were "battelle search". I got 4 results: Diet Revolution by Barry Sears; The Baby Book by William Sears; Tips for child raising by Martha and William Se...

Booxter

Yes, Booxter is another program that I found out about after I had already bought Delicious Library... because, as I mention earlier in the thread, I honestly believed that DL represented a whole new category of software. If I had known about Booxter sooner, I might have rated it higher than Delicio...

ISBN, ASIN

Thanks, Conor!
But don't trust me with this information, let me point you to wikipedia.
Now why didn't I think of that?

ASIN, ISBN10, and ISBN13

Great! Thanks.

If anyone's feeling knowledgeable, I'm still interested in the beginner's guide to ASIN, ISBN10, and ISBN13!

don't understand ISBN/ASIN/Amazon linkup

Can anyone give a simple explanation of the nature of the Bookpedia/Amazon link, what ASINs are, and why many of the Amazon ISBNs appear to be wrong? What prompts this questioning is what happens when I try to enter certain books into Bookpedia by dragging a link from Amazon Japan. An example is her...

switching from Delicious Library

I had to take a few days off from this, but have now bought Bookpedia and settled to my temporary satisfaction most of the issues I brought up, thanks to you guys' help. As Fro pointed out, the UPC doesn't appear to be necessary. I think that my fiddling around in Excel had messed things up. This ti...

Re: Importing from DL...

Anyway, I used the Export feature of DL, which produced a tab-delimited text file. BP seemed to handle reading this type of file fine, but you do have to map the various fields. I realized my mistake not long after posting my earlier message: the DL file can't be read just as it is. I exported to t...
