We don't download any information from our customers, ever.
If you run into a problem with the program and it asks to send a bug report to us, then it will send us that bug report which includes some information about your computer (which OS you're running, for example) but nothing personal about you. You don't even have to include your name or email in that bug report although it helps if you do so we can reply and follow up on the problem.

It is good to know that no customer information is used.
But I am sceptical as to why nobody has worried until now. On Amazon one gets personalised "book offers" depending on the boods or other articles are being viewed. So, personalised offers could be a even better balanced for bookstores knowing what libraries one has at home.
Surprising that no one has thought about it.

As part of the information that Amazon sends along in return for a request, "Similar products" are also included. These are somewhat like the book offers that appear on Amazon's website when you log in but they are solely based on the item that you requested in that search (people who bought this item also bought... that appears on their website). Amazon does not have access to your database.
If you'd prefer not to receive those similar product links when you add an entry, go into the Preferences/Fields, select the 'Info View' option and uncheck the box next to 'Similar Products'.
The request for the information only has our company tag in it, that is required for access. So if they do try to build a previous search database it would only be an aggregate of all the Pedia users and would contain no relevant individual information.
