Aus source: DevotedDvd.com.au

Post by akan »

Hi, just recently purchased the pedias and started scanning in my dvd collection of mainly R4 dvds. While ezydvd and jbhifi are good sources, I've noticed quite a few of my dvds do not show up with either ezydvd or jbhifi (even though I've bought some of them from jbhifi) and have found that when i search using the barcode on devoteddvd.com.au they show up. Was wondering if this site had been looked at as an additional source recently (i think it might have been a couple of years ago) as it seems to have a larger database with barcodes, particularly the more obscure boxset/movie collections (eg Too cool 4 school movie collection, barcode 9324915058835)? It also looks like it should be fairly easy to use the search function as it uses a standardised search string: http://www.devoteddvd.com.au/shop/advan ... 94&x=0&y=0 where 9398710595994 is the barcode. Other good feature of the site is that it has a fair amount of dvd info.

The other site I've found which has a pretty good database is fishpond.com.au (though not as good as devoteddvd.com.au and doesn't have as much dvd info).

Thanks,

Alistair

Thanks for the suggestion. We're trying to limit new search site additions to sites that provide an API for developers since that makes it easier to write the plug-in and maintain it.
JBHifi should work fine with barcode searches though (ezydvd unfortunately doesn't support them). Could you send me a couple of sample UPCs that you used for searches, along with the titles, so we can take a look at that here? Thanks!

well so far the following do not show up on jbhifonline using the barcode search but do with devoteddvd.com.au:

Too cool 4 school movie collection, barcode 9324915058835
Mansfield Park/A Room with a view, barcode 9398710595994 (bought this from JB Hifi)
Lost: Season 1, barcode 9398514173039 (bought from JB Hifi)
My name is Earl: Season 1, barcode 9321337068886 (bought from JB Hifi)
Kingdom of Heaven, barcode 9321337048451
The Big Lebowski, barcode 44005507027 (bought from JB Hifi)
Sahara, barcode 9324915057241
Heroes: Season 1, barcode 5050582520057 (bought from JB Hifi)
Battlestar Galactica: Season 2, barcode 5050582448627

I would appreciate it if you could seriously look at adding devoteddvd.com.au as it appears to me to have a bigger UPC database at the moment compared to jbhifonline.

Thanks!

This is another request for DevotedDVD or Fishpond, please! So far, I haven't had any real luck with getting JBHifi to work with a barcode search.

I'm only really testing so far, but I am, otherwise, really impressed with the software, though!

Fishpond looks quite nice and a possibility, thank you for bringing it to our attention.
