Reading PDFs in Bookpedia

Post by meandmyhouse »

I am unable to open and read PDFs in Bookpedia. These are ebooks that have the link to their file included. It works for epub books to read right in BP, and for Kindle links it opens Kindle for Mac to the book, and audio book links open in iTunes when clicked. But for PDFs it says Missing Plugin. How can I fix this?
Thanks.

That's probably an issue with a missing Adobe plug-in. Adobe has not updated their PDF plugin for the latest Mac technologies and so it won't load in Bookpedia. We have sent emails to Adobe telling them about this but they don't seem interested in updating their plug-in. If you don't mind opening PDFs with Preview you can remove the Adobe PDF plugin called (AdobePDFViewer and AdobePDFViewerNPAP) from your home folder at ~/Library/Internet Plugins/ or the hard drive folder /Library/Internet Plugins/ and restart Bookpedia. The program will then use the default Preview PDF viewer that comes built-in with the Mac.

Alternatively, select the option to "Open links in external browser" in Bookpedia's Preferences and it will open the linked file in Adobe Reader (or whatever app you've set to open PDFs, e.g. Preview).
