Merge or synchronize?

Post by Jasperhound »

I run the pedias on my iMac. My books, CDs and DVDs are distributed around the house. In order to complete my cataloguing I plan to put the pedias on my laptop and run them next to the books etc. that I want to catalogue. It seems that I have two choices to keep my main iMac databases up-to-date - exporting from the laptop or synchronizing the database files (I use ChronoSync to do this with my EagleFile databases). Which is the preferred route?

Hi Jasper,

I would use the synchronizing option as it's less friction and you wouldn't have to worry about organizing the entries after an import (imports always create new excluded collections). Also ChronoSync should warn if there are any conflicts, if you happen to forget and do changes on both machines without syncing and then you can fall back to exporting the new items to resolve the conflict.
