I am not getting this Update Error.

The only thing I can think of is that you Trash the App and its associated folders & files EXCEPT FOR ~Library/Application Support/Bookpedia AND ~Library/preferences/com.bruji.bookpedia.plist It will be quite safe to delete all the other Folders and files.

[NOTE:When I trash an App I use a small free App called AppCleaner which is a small application which allows you to thoroughly uninstall unwanted apps. Simply drop an application onto the AppCleaner window. It will find all the related files and you can select which ones to delete then just click the delete button. I actually have it in the Finder side bar and just drag and drop the App onto it there]

Now download your desired Pedia/s from here: The latest beta builds of the Pedias

As Conor mentioned the Sparkle Update FrameWork may have developed a problem so by deleting your copy of the App and installing a fresh copy will ensure you have a fresh version of the Sparkle FrameWork.

There is also one last thing you can do and that is use, what I call a "Grease & Oil Change" maintenance program called Onyx. This is a free program that is a multifunction utility that you can use to verify the structure of the system files, to run miscellaneous maintenance and cleaning tasks, to configure parameters in the Finder, Dock, Safari, and some of Apple's applications, to delete caches, to remove certain problematic folders and files, to rebuild various databases and indexes, and more. I always use it prior and post system OS updates and about once a month. It is especially good at repairing Permissions.

This program is available here: Titanium Software - Onyx ONLY DOWNLOAD THE VERSION FOR YOUR macOS

Thanks FineWine for the update.

I'm holding off on changing any of my apps at this time because Conor is checking the Sparkle the self updater version he is currently using. I do not want to do anything that would interfere with his research but if I have to go in that direction, I will.

Thanks again.

Secret Rubbish Details in the Price Field

When Adding or Updating books using the Amazon Kindle ASIN SOME "Price:" fields are populated with unwanted advertising rubbish.

Rainbow Road, Alex Sanchez, ASIN:B003L77XCM
Price: $11.99 Kindle Price: $9.45 Save $2.54 (21%) includes applicable taxes & free international wireless delivery via Amazon Whispernet Sold by: Simon and Schuster Digital Sales Inc

Becoming Steve Jobs, Brent Schlender, ASIN:B00P6URK66

Price: $9.99 Kindle Price: $4.47 Save $5.52 (55%) includes free international wireless delivery via Amazon Whispernet Buy now with 1-Click &reg

Don't you just love the 1-click and registration bit.

In the "Edit" window all you see is the Price: $11.99 BUT you see all the rest of the rubbish in the "Details" window. Now once it is there you can not edit it out. This is outrageous subliminal advertising by Amazon and is not wanted.
Have yet to come across it in DVDpedia but it wont be soon I bet. :x

Thank you Finewine for being so specific. I fixed it in the beta silently and will be part of the next rollout. Also for the next version 6.0, new lines will not be allowed in those fields that don't show it in the edit view, so that it will automatically clean up that kind of input.

Sparkle version is .2 versions away from the one I am using, but will update it with the next update. At which point you will have to do the manual update since your getting the permissions error with the updater that can't self actualize.

I do not know if a small update was done to Beta 95 but I downloaded these updates again and installed them over (drag and drop) the currently installed betas (95). The check for updates is now working properly.

Thank you for trying it out. I did a small update to Sparkle on the code, as installing the new version was to complex at this point.

I have done a clean install of MacOS High Sierra and after installing the latest Pedia betas, it would seem that the "Check for Updates" (http://bruji.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f= ... =15#p26082) issue has returned again. :(

Thank you Dan, I'll make another pass through the check for update system and see where it could be failing.

Forgot to mention that I have the Pedia beta apps in a sub folder called Bruji Beta in the Applications folder. I'm wondering if that might be causing the "Check for Updates" issue.

Thank you for the update. I'll give it a try, but should have no effect. An a permissions issue should show up in the error logs.

I can help out by checking the logs on my system. Just let me know the location, filename and what to look for.

UPDATE:
I was going through the Console app and found the following file.

Code: Select all

/Users/<username>/Library/Logs/SparkleUpdateLog.log
It had this information.

Code: Select all

I'm still transferring data from my old DB from Collectorz.com, and it seems to be using the same update installer as the Pedia beta apps.

Thank you for taking a look. A large number of apps use Sparkle, hence why it should be so solid and tested. I have updated it to the latest version with the beta version, but since it's not my code it's harder to debug when not working. I do know it's very sensitive to user folder permissions, but good to know it's working for other apps.

Hi Conor.

I found out why the "Check for Updates" was giving me errors. I was downloading my betas from the following link.

http://bruji.com/beta/

I just downloaded and copied the betas from http://bruji.com/blog/ using the links for the June 9th, 2018 blog entry.

All my "Check for Updates" work fine now.

I think it was a simple URL redirection that the check for updates was not liking. I have changed all links for the beta to https://bruji.com/beta/ as the original was http://beta.bruji.com/, should be the same but one uses a redirect that under https might not be allowed. Wanted to make the new version check for update more secure and use our own SSL connection, even though the downloads are also signed with our two keys, both internal and distribution keys.
